Local jobs are charged by the hour because the only real variable is how long they take. Interstate moves are charged by volume and distance, because the variable there is how much space you occupy on the truck. Anyone quoting a flat figure for a local move without asking about stairs, access or packing is guessing.
The truck, the crew, blankets, shrink wrap, trolleys and floor protection. Several companies list those materials as extras and add them at the end. Ask before you book, because it is the easiest place for a quote to quietly grow.
Stairs. Long carries from the truck to the door. Lifts shared with other residents. And being half-packed when the crew arrives, which is the one entirely within your control. A three-bedroom house that is properly packed can beat a two-bedroom unit that is not.
Is there a call-out fee or fuel levy? When does the clock start and stop? What is the minimum booking? Are materials included? Are you insured, and can I see the certificate? Four of those five should be an immediate yes or no.
