The moving checklist that actually saves you money
Most moving checklists are about not forgetting things. This one is about the handful of jobs that genuinely shorten the day — because on an hourly rate, time is the bill.
Read the article →In an apartment move the furniture is rarely the problem. The lift, the dock and the building manager are. Sort those and the rest is straightforward.
Most buildings require the lift to be booked and will only release it in set windows. If you miss that window, your crew waits in the foyer on your clock. Ring the building manager as soon as you have a moving date.
It is proof your removalist carries public liability insurance, and plenty of buildings will not let a crew on site without it. Any legitimate removalist can produce one the same day. Give them the building details and let them send it directly.
Lounges and mattresses are the usual casualties. A three-seater that fits through your front door may not fit diagonally into a small lift car. If it will not, it goes down the stairs, and that changes the time and the price — better known a week out than on the morning.
Work out where a truck can legally stop and how far it is from the entrance. That distance is the carry, and the carry is a real part of the bill. If a permit or a reserved bay is available, it usually pays for itself.
If you want a figure for your own move, send us the details and we’ll come back the same day with a rate, a crew size and an honest estimate of the hours. Or call 02 7251 9477 and talk it through.
